Softball Splits with East Stroudsburg
BOX SCORE GAME ONE
BOX SCORE GAME TWO
EAST STROUDSBURG--Ashley Lynn tossed a four-hit shutout to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 2-0 win over East Stroudsburg in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday. In game two, the Warriors snapped the Huskies 11-game winning streak with a 2-1 win.
In the opener Lynn struck out seven and walked one to earn her 18th win of the year, tying her career-high. Bloomsburg got all the offense it would need in the second inning when Misy Bachert (Coplay/Parkland) singled and Jess Rosin (Brooklyn, NY/James Madison) reached on a fielder's choice. On Tiff Corliss' (Lewisburg/Mifflinburg) fly out, both runners advanced. After a pop out, Alyssa English (Wallacetown/Phillipsburg-Osceola) laced a two-run double to left scoring both Bachert and Rosin.
East Stroudsburg threatened in the fourth, but Shannon Dietrich, who had doubled, was thrown out at home by Bachert to end the inning on a single by Aliana Hale.
In the nightcap, the Warriors took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the third and fourth innings. Bloomsburg got on back in the sixth inning when English hit a home run. The Huskies did get runners to second in both the first and fifth innings, but did not score.
The win in game one was the 1,598th of coach Jan Hutchinson's career as she closes in on yet another coaching milestone between softball and field hockey.
Bloomsburg goes to 32-11 and finishes the PSAC Eastern Division schedule with a record of 18-6. East Stroudsburg goes to 23-24, 14-10 in the PSAC East. Both teams will take part in the PSAC playoffs next week at Kutztown. Bloomsburg will be the second seed from the East and will face the third-team from the PSAC-West in its opening game.
